Rachael Liu’s Peking Opera Summer Camp in Cherry Hill HuaXia Chinese School, Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Rachel Liu, a student of Master ShuYuan Li, was invited by Cherry Hill HuaXia Chinese School in New Jersey to teach Peking Opera at their summer camps in July. For the past two years (2018-2019), Rachel has taught as many as 400 students from kindergarten to high school. Her lessons included acting and martial arts as well as teaching about Chinese history, costumes, and makeup. Rachel’s enthusiasm and excitement for teaching opera allowed the students to experience her passion. Every student showed great interest in learning about Peking Opera and participated often, which motivated and encouraged Rachel to continue teaching about this old traditional art. Fueled by determination and eagerness, Rachel continues her studies in opera, hoping to transcend this tradition to the next generation.
